Maiko Kuroda

Trained in the art of Ikebana (traditional Japanese floral design) and British bouquet design, Maiko brings over 30 years of experience sourcing and arranging flowers in Tokyo and Honolulu.

Maiko-sensei grew up surrounded by flowers from a young age, observing her mother practice Ikebana in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. From her early years delivering floral arrangements through the Tokyo metropolis without GPS, to meticulously prepping and arranging thousands of blooms for a party at the Four Seasons Ko Olina, her relationship with flowers has always been a way of life.

Maiko-sensei completed a four year Ikebana apprenticeship, with honors, under Master Matsutani Shingetsu at Shingetsu Ikenobou in Tokyo. She also completed a three year certificate of Western Flower Arrangement under Bill Hixson at Keisen Flower School in Tokyo.

Maiko-sensei moved to Honolulu in 2001 and has since been entrusted with florals for hundreds of weddings and business throughout the Hawaiian islands. She continues to have a keen eye for quality and always enjoys learning new techniques, especially those that promote sustainability into her designs. Maiko-sensei has also been recognized as a skilled lei-maker in Honolulu.

When she is not dreaming of new floral designs, Maiko-sensei enjoys spending time with her Golden Retrievers.
